Truck driver crushes two FRSC officers to death

A truck driver ran over two Federal Road Safety Corps officers on Friday along the Ikot-Ikpene - Aba road.

In a statement signed by Corps spokesman Bisi Kazeem, the accident occurred as a result of excessive speed by the driver of a DAF articulated truck while he was trying to dodge a pothole along the axis.

The Acting Corps Marshal, FRSC, Dauda Biu, denounced the incessant running over/run over of patrol officers due to the recklessness of some drivers who continuously violated the legally mandated speed limit.

The statement "The Acting Marshal of the Federal Traffic Safety Corps, Dauda Biu, denounced the incessant running over/run over of patrol officers due to the recklessness of some drivers who continuously violated the speed limit legally prescribed.

"He said this while lamenting the deaths of two Corps officers as he pledged the Corps' resolve to apprehend the perpetrators of this murderous act and force them to face the wrath of the law.

"Dauda Biu said this following the unfortunate crushing to death of 2 Federal Road Safety Corps patrol officers by a truck driver along the Ikot-Ikpene - Aba road on Friday, November 25, 2022.

"The accident occurred as a result of excessive speed by the driver of a DAF articulated truck while trying to avoid a pothole along the axis.

"According to the preliminary investigation, the fatal accident involved an FRSC patrol vehicle and a white-colored truck. The road accident affected a total of 8 adult males, 2 of whom were seriously injured, 2 were killed while the remaining 4 passengers were rescued without any injuries.

"The wounded were taken to Ikot Ekpene General Hospital and the dead deposited in the morgue of the same hospital respectively.

"The Acting Corps Marshal expresses his heartfelt condolences to the families of personnel who lost their lives on active duty while assuring the public of the Corps' resilience and determination to ensure that the perpetrators of a if poor driving culture be forced to face the law; or refrain from such act by complying with acceptable road safety rules, for the body will not spare anyone engaged in this deadly act of recklessness on the road."
