FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup: Nigerian Falconets take on Korea

Nigeria women's U-20 team Falconets will be aiming for a quick passage to the quarter-finals of the ongoing FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup when they face Korea Republic on Sunday night.

Group C match billed at 9 p.m. (Nigeria Time) will take place at Estadio Alajuela Morera Soto in Costa Rica.

Following a brilliant start to their first group match against France, the Falconets are set for a showdown with top table Korea, who also got off to a winning start with their 2-0 win over Canada.

Although on three points like Nigeria, the Asians are ahead in Group C with their best goal difference.

Nigeria's heroine in the match against France was 18-year-old Bayelsa Queens striker Flourish Sebastine, who was named player of the match.

Regarded as a top finisher with an excellent all-round game of trickery, movement and positioning, Sebastine is one of the key players coach Chris Danjuma will rely on to destroy Team Asia.

Sebastine scored seven goals in the qualifying series to help the Falconets travel to Costa Rica in style and she is hoping for more in the tournament proper.

Besides Sebastine, Mercy Idoko, who picked up the assist in the game against France, and skipper Tosin Demehin are some of the Falconets' other key players.

Sunday's encounter would be the third at this level between Korea and Nigeria, with the Falconets having the upper hand with wins in the last two matches.

The two teams met for the first time on August 19, 2012 in Japan, when Nigeria won 2-0 in their group match.

Their second meeting was on August 9, 2014 in Canada and it was in the group stage, which eventually ended 2-1 in favor of Nigeria.

In previous encounters, Nigeria finished top of the group and Korea finished second, with both teams advancing to the knockout stage.

A similar situation can occur if the Falconets win Sunday's contest, which guarantees automatic qualification for the quarter-finals.
