U-20 World Cup: Danjuma and Onyenezide speak ahead of quarter-final v Netherlands

The Super Falconets will face the Netherlands in the quarter-finals of the FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup at Estadio Alajuela Morera Soto in the final hours of Sunday, the first time the two countries will meet during this tournament.

The Falconets last secured a ticket to the semi-finals in 2014. Since then, they have failed to progress beyond the quarter-finals in the 2016 and 2018 editions.

The Netherlands beat the United States and Ghana and will pose a different challenge to the Falconets as they seek to win the World Cup for the first time in Costa Rica.

According to coach Chris Danjuma, the Dutch team will not be underestimated.

“The Dutch are a super strong team to have survived that group where the Americans were sent packing their bags. Either way, any team in the quarter-finals has to be a super strong team. We will not rate, just as we have not underrated any of France, the Republic of Korea and Canada.

"As I said at the start of the tournament, we're taking it one game at a time. Our overall plan for each of the group stage matches has worked well. And I believe our overall plan for the match against the Netherlands will also work,” he concluded.

Meanwhile Esther Onyenezide, who scored three goals to be the team's top scorer, believes the Netherlands will fall like France.

“We will do our best. We will redouble our efforts against the Netherlands. execute everything we learned.

"The next step is the semi-finals, and we are in no rush to leave the tournament."

The game starts at 11:15 p.m. Nigerian time.
