Uber could launch a service similar to TaskRabbit

In the future, when you need someone's help to complete a task, you might find yourself launching the Uber app on your phone. According to Bloomberg, the company is studying the possibility of offering a new TaskRabbit-type service. Developer Steve Moser found hidden code in Uber's iPhone app for an offer reportedly codenamed "Chore." Based on its current iteration, Chore will let you hire "taskers" and allow you to specify in the app what you need help with, how long you think it would take, and what time you'd like let the tasker arrive.

Of course, you will be able to enter the address of where you want the person to go before submitting your request. Uber will then calculate a payment proportionate to the time it takes to complete the task, but you will have to pay for a minimum of one hour, whatever that is. Bloomberg says the code Moser discovered contained no guidance on the types of help you can request from providers, but the service's potential rival, TaskRabbit, offers a wide range of categories. These include cleaning, furniture assembly, electrical help, plumbing, TV mounting, packing and moving, snow removal, computer support, pet sitting and even babysitting to the elderly.

Like any other unconfirmed feature still in development, Chore might not even be released to the public. If so, it will be a huge new venture for Uber, known for its ride-hailing and restaurant delivery services. In recent months, Uber has rolled out Carshare, which allows users to borrow cars from private owners, in more locations as part of its efforts to become a zero-emissions platform by 2040. The company has also started testing a toll-free number: 1-833. -USE-UBER (1-833-873-8237) — you can call to schedule an immediate or future trip.
