We won't allow one-party system in Rivers, says Lulu-Briggs

The Accord gubernatorial candidate in Rivers State, Chief Dumo Lulu-Briggs, has flayed what he claimed was an attempt by the People's Democratic Party (PDP) to annihilate other political parties in the state to allow it to become the single party, noting that the people of Rivers deserve the right to have options from which they can choose who will govern them.

Speaking outside the courtroom this weekend after a Federal High Court sitting in Port Harcourt reserved judgment in the case brought by the PDP against the candidates for the National Assembly of the Agreement, Lulu-Briggs said the PDP wanted only his party to field a candidate in the general election.

Judge Stephen Daylop-Pam reserved judgment after hearing submissions from attorneys for PDP and Accord, the addresses were adopted and the matter was adjourned to a date to be communicated to both parties .

The case also brought by the PDP against Accord gubernatorial candidate Chief Dumo Lulu-Briggs has been adjourned until November 25 for a final hearing.

Abiodun Owonikoko (SAN), the lawyer for Chief Dumo Lulu, who is also the lawyer for the National Assembly candidates for the Accord, speaking to a reporter outside the courtroom audience, said:

"When we return next week, by the grace of God, November 25, we will take up the substantive case in the gubernatorial pre-election filed by the PDP against the nomination of our candidate. , which has nothing to do with his qualification. »

PDP lawyer Dike Udenna said: "The PDP is asking the court to order the INEC to remove the names of the Accord Party candidates for the Senate and Representatives on the grounds that they are not not eligible to stand for election. The main grievance in this matter is that the Accord party held the (primary) congresses for the nomination of these candidates outside the different constituencies.”

“Under the law, we believe this renders it invalid. constituencies.”
