Why I started Iheanacho against Brighton - Leicester boss Rodgers

Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers has explained his decision to start Kelechi Iheanacho in Sunday's 5-2 loss at Brighton.

Iheanacho has been given a starting role by Rodgers for the first time this season.

The Nigerian international rewarded his coach's confidence by giving his team the lead from the first minute.

The home side rallied to win the game, with Iheanacho leaving the pitch for Jamie Vardy in the 72nd minute.

It was Iheanacho's fourth league appearance this season for the former Premier League champions.

“Exactly that: attacking the game. We thought they would probably play three at the back, so we had two forwards against him and just had more attacking players on the pitch,” Rodgers said during his post-match conference.

"It's an area where we probably missed opportunities, and both boys scored, so it was really good, but I didn't think we kept the ball well enough. In the Premier League, you have to take care of the ball and we gave it up too easily."
