"Actually, let me also tell you that Ayu collected 100 million naira from a governor that he was going to renovate our democratic institute, then he (Ayu) returned to the (PDP) NWC and took the same 100 million naira to do the same job."

The governor challenged Mr. Ayu to deny it and he revealed more details about the double salary.

Mr. Wike, who was a presidential aspirant for the PDP, leads a group of party leaders who are demanding Mr Ayu's resignation, in order to achieve "regional balance" as MM. Ayu and PDP presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar are both from the north.

Mr. Wike, in Friday's media chat, claimed that Mr. Ayu had promised to step down if a presidential candidate for the party emerges from the north, not when the candidate wins the general election to become president.

He said the party had found itself in a leadership crisis due to its failure to zone the party's presidential ticket for Southern Nigeria in accordance with the party's constitution.

"The two major positions have now passed into the same area (north). We said let's play the role that everyone will take their cake. Take and let me take and there will be peace, there will be peace. 'unity. But if you take it all, that's where you have a problem.

“What we are facing is that the president (should) go to the South (because) the presidential candidate is in the North. They are disenfranchising my people. That would be foolish on my part of the South to abdicate this position of president,” he said.

“No one should talk to me about the best interests of the party. You should talk to me about the best interests of my people. president is in the South."

The governor said the post of Delta State Governor Ifeanyi Okowa as the party's vice-presidential candidate was not a "major post".

He faulted those who argued that the party's national chairmanship position should be zoned south if Mr. Atiku became president in 2023.

"If after the election, Atiku wins the presidential election, what role will the national president play again?" he said.
