Wike won't leave PDP, says Saraki

FORMER Senate Speaker Bukola Saraki described the recent visit of Governors of Ekiti and Ondo States, Dr. Kayode Fayemi and Olurotimi Akeredolu, respectively, to their Rivers State counterpart, Nyesom Wike, like an exercise in futility.

The two governors of the All Progressive Congress may be in Port Harcourt, the capital of Rivers State, to woo the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

However, speaking to reporters in Ilorin, Senator Saraki said the visit would ultimately come to nothing, adding that the PDP would not allow Governor Wike to quit the opposition party.

“Governor Wike is an important member of our party and I am very confident that in a short time we will sit down and sort out all the issues.

"There is no doubt that he has reason to feel the way he feels, but there are better ways to solve a problem like this.

"The good thing is that we are all talking to each other. We are on top of the situation and the PDP will come together and move forward to win the next election. "I assure you that PDP will definitely solve his family problem that he currently has. The fact that some APC governors have gone to their colleague, trying to capitalize on what they think is a problem is a serious miscalculation,” he said.

In the end, their visit leads nowhere.

“The APC governors know that this is the kind of loophole they need to seize. Luckily, we're not going to give them (Wike) because the upcoming election is too important.

"The destiny of millions of Nigerians is too important and even greater than any party or individual. I appreciate that. All of our stakeholders appreciate that and Governor Wike himself appreciates that."

During the current university union strike in Nigeria, the former governor of Kwara State blamed the insensitivity of the federal government.

"There's no way I'm in government because the Senate President and ASUU and other college unions will be on strike for months.

"This is a lack of compassion and dedication. This is an issue that the government should lock itself in a room and not come out of until the issue is resolved. And I have no haven't seen this dedication. I don't know if you've seen it.

"This is the difference between the PDP government and what we have now. This could not have happened under Presidents Obasanjo,
