An exhibition of the works of 18th century painter and satirist William Hogarth has opened.

The pieces are on display in Derby after locals responded to a call to raise over £20,000.

The exhibition, titled Hogarth's Britons: Succession, Patriotism, and the 1745 Jacobite Rebellion, is on view at Derby Museum and Art Gallery.

Derby Museum said it hoped the display would provide a cultural boost to the city.

In all, the exhibition includes 40 works by Hogarth, as well as those by some of his contemporaries.
