YOUMBAS celebrates its 48th anniversary and urges Nigerians to embrace peaceful elections

THE Young Muslim Brothers and Sisters of Nigeria (YOUMBAS) Governing Council on Saturday in Ibadan, Oyo State emerged from a meeting with key stakeholders with advice for Nigerians to that they embrace peace before, during and after the 2023 general election.

In a statement after the meeting, which was part of the activities marking the 48th anniversary of YOUMBAS, the organization commended President Muhammadu Buhari for his efforts to stabilize the country.

In the statement, signed by National President, Alhaji Abdulfatah Oloyede; Deputy Chairman of the Board (Osun State), Alhaji Abdrrasheed Agboola; National Key Stakeholder Leader, Alhaji Tajudeen Layonu; and the National Amirah, Alhaja Silifat Akintayo, YOUMBAS called on candidates for political office to purify their minds and not see politics as a way to amass wealth at the expense of Nigerians.

The organization called on all Muslims to participate in the upcoming general elections to ensure good leadership in the country and end political apathy "because this amounts to causing problems for future generations due to of the emergence of bad governance".

He urged politicians to imbibe the spirit of sportsmanship and accept those who emerge victorious in the elections as ordained by Allah and then join them in the task of lifting Nigeria out of the doldrums.

The organization has implored government at all levels to create employment opportunities for young people to reduce unemployment and the resulting high crime rate in the country.

YOUMBAS advised the federal government to find a solution to soaring petroleum product prices “that are making life unbearable for the poor masses.”

He stressed the need for governments to always review their policies and programs before they are executed to avoid inflicting suffering on the citizens whose votes brought them to power.

The organization commended President Muhammadu Buhari for his efforts in leading the country's affairs, but called on him to take steps to reverse the current economic downturn and restore stability to the system.
