Zamfara terrorists kidnap 44 people, five women escape

Terrorists reportedly abducted 44 people from Kanwa village, Zurmi local government area, Zamfara state.

A native of the area, Garba Idi, said the abductees were mainly women and children.

Idi, however, explained that five women managed to escape.

He said, “They came to the village on a motorbike. Some of them stayed outside the village, while others entered and started shooting sporadically.

“Many people, mainly men, were able to flee into the bush when they heard gunshots, while 39 women and children, who could not run, were abducted by the terrorists.

"However, on the way to the forest, five women ran away and returned home."

Efforts to speak to State Police Public Relations Officer SP Mohammed Shehu failed as he could not be reached on his phone despite multiple attempts.
