Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum has ordered the completion of the Azare mega water project in the Hawul local government area of ​​the state.

The governor ordered the state Department of Water Resources to ensure the project was completed within two months.

Zulum gave the directive while evaluating the progress of the ongoing project at the city of Azare site.

The Water Resources Commissioner, Tijjani Baba-Alkali, assured the Governor that the project would be completed on schedule.

Baba-Alkali said the Azare Mega Water project, which started four months ago, has 10 boreholes in the middle aquifer, each with a pumping capacity of nine to 10 liters per second.

The project, he said, would store 560,000 liters of water to improve its availability for the 20,000 residents of Azare and its surroundings.

"The 560,000 liters combine a surface tank with a capacity of 400,000 liters and an aboveground tank with a capacity of 160,000 liters", he said.

The commissioner noted that the project included the reticulation of primary and secondary distribution networks over 3 km and water point networks.

He explained that six of the project's 10 boreholes have been drilled, with four more to go.

Baba-Alkali also explained that the water project will be powered by a hybrid with 24,000 watts of solar capacity and a 100 KVA generator.
