Nicole Kidman's AMC ad inspires a cult following in 'SNL' skit

Every time Nicole Kidman's AMC Cinemas ad airs, the Aussie actor gets louder - according to "Saturday Night Live," anyway. In the Season 48 premiere of the long-running NBC sketch series, the serious publicity that managed to earn a cult following in real life gets even more cult following when Chloe Fineman steps into Kidman's stiletto heels.

Fineman largely sticks to the ad's original dialogue, which can't be improved upon. She marvels at how theaters can transport audiences to new places and how "grief feels good in a place like this". This is when things start to get weird, especially for the average viewer, played by Kenan Thompson.

Soon the entire theater joins Fineman as Kidman sings "somehow grief does good in a place like this" as they wave to the screen. Thompson reluctantly joins as Kidman's power grows and she begins to levitate above the crowd. The more the crowd sings, the more her power grows as if she were some kind of supervillain feeding on their adoration. Thompson sums up the weird and brilliant moment when he says, "What just happened?"

The "SNL" skit hits the mark in large part because people seem to like the Kidman commercial. In fact, there have been reports of theater patrons waving to the screen and reciting the wonderfully cheesy lines that hype the theater experience. The ad is so popular it even has a sequel, according to Variety.

Who knows how strong Kidman's powers will become once it airs. . .
