Norm Macdonald brought something special to the whole Orville

Macdonald "appeared" in 22 episodes of "The Orville" as a witty glob of green goo (including once as the human avatar of Yaphit), c It was therefore his work in the sound booth that brought the character to life. It was a skill that MacFarlane marveled at. In an interview with Syfy, the series creator opened up about the monotony of recording voiceovers for TV. MacFarlane said:

"When you have a day of taping voice actors on any show, it can get a little tedious after a while when you have a parade of them coming one after another But with Norm, it was different. With Norm, he could stay 45 minutes or an hour after, just talking, and I was there for every second. It was just an absolute gift and I'm so grateful to to have had the good fortune to be around him as much as I was."

MacFarlane described Macdonald's style as follows: "Appearing not to have prepared at all, but to have prepared really well. And so, he gives the impression that it is so easy when in fact I'm sure he was working like crazy."

And while Norm Macdonald may be gone, those who knew him best say his best moments will stay with us for a long time.
