Official trailer of "The Computer Accent" document on the YACHT group
"What if I gave a soul to a computer or a machine. It doesn't make us weaker, it makes us stronger." Memory revealed a music + technology document manager called The Computer Accent, featuring pop band YACHT. Originally created in 2002 by Jona Bechtolt, they have evolved over the years with different band members. Now, boundary-pushing band YACHT is tackling the biggest challenge of their career: inviting artificial intelligence into their creative process. As cutting-edge technology clashes with their DIY sensibilities, the band struggles to understand the future of music and their place within it. The PR description adds, "Lo-fi meets high-tech in this entertaining and thought-provoking journey into the wilderness of art and technology. The band sits down as researchers weave their way through explanations of neural networks. It sounds like a funky documentary that will play perfectly as a double feature with the movie Meow Wolf - both about quirky artists trying to innovate cleverly, sometimes unsuccessfully.
First trailer (+ poster) for Riel Roch-Decter & Sebastian Pardo's doc The Computer Accent on YouTube:
The Computer Accent is a documentary that follows revolutionary pop group YACHT as they attempt something terrifying: hand over the reins of their creative process to artificial intelligence. Working with leading AI technologists and researchers, YACHT uses state-of-the-art data analysis tools, machine learning, neural networks, sci-fi instruments and generative composition strategies to create a new type of man-machine album: music, lyrics, illustrations, videos. , and all. Putting AI to the test in the name of art, YACHT are guides through the brave new world of artificial intelligence. Along the way, they will question their own roles in a future where software anticipates, generates, and even synthesizes human labor. The Computer Accent is directed by filmmakers Riel Roch- Decter & Sebastian Pardo, both making their directorial debuts after producing tons of shorts before. This was originally shown at the CPH:DOX Film Festival earlier this year. Memory will debut with The Computer Accent in select US theaters on October 21, 2022 (NY only) with an SF+LA release on November 17 later in the fall. Who wants to watch?
