Oppenheimer director Christopher Nolan supports actors and writers and takes a step back from cinema as the SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes continue.

At the London premiere of Nolan's new film, the cast left ahead of the screening as the SAG-AFTRA strike loomed. The filmmaker now opens up about what the strike means by saying "It's not about me."

“No, absolutely. It's very important for everyone to understand that this is a pivotal moment in the relationship between workers and Hollywood," Nolan told BBC News. "It's not about not me, it's not about the stars of my film. It's not about me, it's not about the stars of my film."

Actors and screenwriters take a stand against studios to protect against the threat of artificial intelligence and ask for a better residual structure in the age of streaming.

When Nolan took the stage at the London premiere of Oppenheimer, he acknowledged the actors had to leave "to write their signs".

"I have to give credit to our incredible cast, led by Cillian Murphy," Nolan said. . “The list is huge – Robert Downey Jr, Matt Damon, Emily Blunt, Florence Pugh, Kenneth Branagh, Rami Malek and many more. … You saw them here earlier on the red carpet. Unfortunately, they left to write their signs for what we believe is an impending SAG strike, joining one of my guilds, the Writers Guild, in the fight for fair wages for the working members of their union."
