Ornstein confirms Newcastle have agreed €70m deal for Isak as Real Sociedad accept first offer

Newcastle have agreed a €70m (£59m) deal with Real Soeciedad for Alexander Isak.

The 22-year-old was heavily linked with a move to Arsenal in January, who were seen as interested again this summer before moving to Gabriel Jesus.

Spanish outlet Diario Vasco (via Sport Witness) claim Newcastle have been on the trail of Isak "all summer", but only come to make an official offer to Real Sociedad, which was immediately accepted as they are now looking for a replacement.

The La Liga side are also set to receive a potential €5m in performance bonuses and 10% of the profits from a future sale. He was described by reports in Spain as an offer Real Sociedad simply couldn't refuse.

News of Newcastle's successful bid was confirmed by David Ornstein of The Athletic, who says Isak is indeed "on track to move to St James' Park" with the "exact reports in Spain".

Having joined Real Sociedad for €15m from Borussia Dortmund, the striker has scored 44 goals and provided eight assists in 132 appearances, and has also established himself as a key player for Sweden.

Assuming personal terms are agreed and medicals passed, Isak's transfer would smash Newcastle's current record of around £40m, which they paid to Hoffenheim for Joelinton in 2019.

Isak will become Newcastle's fourth senior signing this summer following the moves of Matt Targett, Nick Pope and Sven Botman.

This could end their supposed interest in Martin Terrier, for which they have reportedly made an offer of £25m.

Terrier, who joined Rennes from Lyon for £10.8m in the summer of 2020, can play winning on the left or as a centre-forward and has scored 21 Ligue 1 goals in the past. last season.

This form has seen him linked with a number of Premier League clubs, including Liverpool and West Ham, but the 25-year-old's comments following Rennes' 2-1 win over Ajaccio on Sunday - which Terrier got it wrong this season - could have (and perhaps should have) ended speculation about his future.

When asked if he will still be a Rennes player beyond September 1, he replies: "It's certain, I feel good here, I grew up a lot here last year. The club is ambitious and the fans are fantastic so I feel good here and I thrive."

Terrier also reaffirmed his desire to go to the World Cup in Qatar with France, although he has yet to make a match for the senior team.

He added: "I still have a lot of work to do. In my position there is a lot of competition, a lot of big players, but I have matured and gained experience and I will do everything to continue ."

Either way, we probably don't have to worry about whether Newcastle were barking up the wrong tree with Terrier or not, as it looks like Isak will be the one to lead their line this season.
