CATEGORY COMMENT: There's momentum for Neon's "Triangle of Sadness," which has won the Palme d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival. For her powerful turn as toilet boss Abigail, relative unknown Dolly De Leon landed a Golden Globe nod, which bodes well for her campaign. If she can squeeze into the SAG lineup, the single mother of four would be well on her way to Dolby Theater as a contestant. Moreover, she is one of the heartwarming stories of the season, not without some history being made as the first ever Filipina to be nominated. However, De Leon is not the only newcomer/unknown in the running.

Stephanie Hsu has the critics on her side for "Everything Everywhere All at Once", complete with a mention well-deserved Critics Choice. Suppose she can ride a wave of love for her multiverse comedy-drama. In that case, she could easily join her seemingly closeted co-star Jamie Lee Curtis, who will land her first nod after a blistering career that should already have some Academy citations (i.e. "A Fish Called Wanda", "True Lies" and "Freaky Friday").

Nina Hoss hopes to ride with her lead actress co-star Cate Blanchett for "Tár," which appear to be potential BAFTA favorites across the pond. If you're unaware of Hoss' greatness, watch "Barbara" or "Phoenix" over the holidays and see a fantastic German actress at the top of her game.
