Weekly Commentary (updated September 5, 2023): The Best Actor race is sure to be a dip of blood, with each new contestant arriving at a festival, living up to (or exceeding) expectations.

We already know that Cillian Murphy (“Oppenheimer”) and Leonardo DiCaprio (“Killers of the Flower Moon ") will be two strong bets.

Telluride provided Colman Domingo's transformative turn in "Rustin" alongside the impeccable work of Paul Giamatti in "The Holdovers".

Andrew Scott broke many people's hearts with what he delivers in "All of Us Strangers " and Austin Butler shows us that his exceptional work in "Elvis" was no accident. He's equally fascinating in Jeff Nichols' "The Bikeriders," but ranking in the category will determine how far he goes.

Barry Keoghan leaves everything on the floor in Emerald Fennell's "Saltburn" and has just won his first nomination for "The Banshees of Inisherin", a "sticky" name is not out of the question.

Venice also added Adam Driver from "Ferrari" and Bradley Cooper from "Maestro" and TIFF On s expect many to be excited about Jeffrey Wright in 'American Fiction' and Jamie Foxx in 'The Burial'.
