Oxford rower rushed to hospital after collapsing at end of Boat Race vs Cambridge

The Cambridge celebrations were understandably subdued. Onlookers were clearly concerned about Drinkall's condition as he was carried away on a stretcher by paramedics.

Ollie Boyne, the men's chairman of the Cambridge Boat Club, was delighted in responding to his team's triumph. "It was an incredible performance from the crews, it's a great sign for the club," he said.

"The conditions were really tough but that was due to the tide and that's what makes the race so special. It means everything to the guys and the team as a whole after six months of daily work."
