It will run from March 3-18, with four city-based teams forming teams of 12 local players and six foreign players.

There will be 12 league matches and a final, which will take place the day before the Pakistan Super League Final, with all matches played in Rawalpindi.

This could conflict with the first edition of the Women's Indian Premier League.

PCB Chairman Ramiz Raja said, "I am delighted to announce the women's league. This league will attract young women cricketers to this great sport and help our current players improve their skills when they can share dugouts with overseas players.

"The league will feature current and past pioneers of women's cricket in what promises to be a thrilling 13-match event.

"This event is part of our strategy to make Pakistan a stronger cricketing nation in all formats and genres."

All matches will be broadcast live and some will take place before Pakistan Super League matches, the country's men's T20 franchise league.

Pakistan are currently ranked sixth in the International Cricket Council's Twenty20 rankings and have never managed to out of the group stages of a world tournament.
