Pantomime and Christmas carols proposed for UNESCO cultural status

British Christmas traditions , such as pantomime, carol singing and wreath making could benefit from protected status.
It comes as the Government confirms it will ratify the 2003 UNESCO Convention for the Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage.
Traditions already recognized across the world include Argentine tango and the culture of Belgian beer.
The system protects the crafts, practices and traditions that give people a sense of identity around the world.
