PlayStation today announced its latest acquisition: Savage Game Studios. The studio will be part of the company's expansion into mobile games and is already working on its first project. Sony previously said it plans to make significant moves towards mobile in the next few years.

PlayStation revealed the acquisition in a blog post by Hermen Hulst, Head of PlayStation Studios. He said of the new endeavors, “[Savage Game Studios was] founded a few years ago with the goal of fearlessly exploring bold new ideas…. [It's] joining a newly created PlayStation Studios mobile division, which will operate independently of our console development and focus on innovative, mobile experiences based on new and existing PlayStation IP.

Michail Katkoff, CEO of Savage, said in a statement, "We entered into this agreement because we believe the leadership of PlayStation Studios aligns with our vision of how best to operate and succeed, and because they also aren't afraid to take risks. All of this, plus the opportunity to potentially leverage PlayStation's incredible catalog of IPs and the fact that we'll have the kind of support that only they can provide." /p>

Hulst adds, somewhat defensively, "As we've assured you before with our plans to bring certain titles to PC, our efforts beyond console in no way diminish our commitment to the PlayStation community, nor our passion to continue to create amazing single-player, story-driven experiences… Our mobile gaming efforts will similarly add up, providing more ways for more people to interact with our content and striving to reach new audiences unfamiliar with PlayStation and our games."
