PlayStation today announced that in addition to its usual range of free titles, it will raise the price of PS Plus in September. From September 6, the price of the 12-month subscription for each level of the service increases considerably. This month's games, which launch on September 5, are Saints Row (2022), Black Desert: Traveler Edition, and Generation Zero.

New annual subscription prices for each tier are $80 for Essential, $135 for Extra, and $180 for Premium. Previous prices for each tier are $60, $100, and $120 respectively. PlayStation set these prices when it launched the revamped PS Plus last year. This comes shortly after Xbox raised prices for rival subscription service Game Pass in July.

The announcement does not specify whether the monthly or quarterly subscription prices will increase alongside the annual plan. However, he added in the announcement post that annual prices "remain at a discounted rate compared to purchasing one-month or three-month subscriptions over a 12-month period." Mathematically, this would be true, although the margin of difference between paying the monthly price each month for twelve months and paying the annual price will not be as great as the others. Those between quarterly and annual prices get even thinner.

For example, current monthly and quarterly prices for PS Plus are $10 per month and $25 per quarter, respectively, or $120 and $100 for a full year. Now, the fixed price for the same period increases from $60 to $80. Similarly, Extra tier pricing is $180/year (starting at $15 per month) and $160/year (starting at $40 per term) and the new annual price is $140; and Premium tiers are $216/year (was $18 monthly) and $200/year (was $50 quarterly) with a new annual price of $180.
