A 20-year-old woman has been shot dead by Iranian security forces as violent protests against women's rights rage across the country.

Hadis Najafi - who was described by her family as a young woman who loved to sing and dance - took to the streets to join a protest against her country's strict hijab laws.

She died after being hit by bullets six times when a flurry of gunfire struck her down as she prepared to join a protest in Karaji.

The young woman, very prominent on TikTok and Instagram, was reportedly hit in the chest, face, hand and neck by bullets fired indiscriminately by security guards.
