Podcast Ep. 268: Step Out of Duties by Choosing Desire Over Obligation

A big part of being more bounded is knowing the difference between doing things from a place of desire and doing them from a place of obligation. On this week's episode of The Baggage Reclaim Sessions, I share the lessons I learned from making a recent decision.

5 key topics in this episode Believing that something is the Way is a clue that we need to be careful and try to tune into our needs and desires. Am I doing something because it's the established way of doing it or because that's how I want to do it? We close our desires with obligation, expectations, duties, fear and comparison, which also makes it difficult to listen and discern what we need. We find ourselves in a field of duties that leave us trapped, lost and confused. Awareness of our needs and desires helps us to feel and know our limits. We are more aware of the choices we have to make to align with our values. Learning the difference between what we want to do and what we feel compelled to do helps us be more limited. Does it come from us or does it come from somewhere else? So is it our own voice or our parents, society and the expectations of others? Using comparison to make decisions about what suits us is a trap. Why do we base our next steps on someone else's steps? We do not walk in their place and vice versa. The things we really wanted to do can become routine, so you need to check the decisions you made from a place of wanting that have become routine and the norm. Are these decisions still valid? Or do they (and you) need to evolve? Remember, things change. We evolve and our decisions also evolve. We can get through life doing the things we committed to and felt a sense of duty to do and wanted to do. Be aware of where you tend to do things feeling guilty and shitty. You don't have to spend your life feeling bad about yourself. Cut the shoulders! Mentioned Links + Recommended Resources
