Ibiza police have arrested a tattoo artist suspected of sexually assaulting a British woman.

The alleged victim reported it to officers in Scotland, where she lives, who passed on the information she gave them to their counterparts in Spain.

The 47-year-old defendant was detained after detectives discovered he had a history of similar offences.

The unnamed man was remanded in custody after appearing before a judge in a closed-door hearing.

Police released photos of uniformed officers putting him in a squad car after his arrest, but did not reveal details of his nationality in a statement on the detention.

A spokesperson for the force said: "The Civil Guard, through its Sex Crimes Investigation Unit in Ibiza, has arrested a 47-year-old man on suspicion of a crime of sexual assault.

"The arrest took place on August 11.
