Police hope to charge Christian Brueckner with the kidnapping and murder of Madeleine McCann before Christmas, according to new reports.

Brueckner remains the prime suspect in the case and a "concrete case" is being built against the convicted rapist, it is understood.

He was first named as being linked to Madeleine's disappearance two years ago, but no charges have been brought against him in connection with the matter since.

However, the news comes as the 45-year-old has been charged with a series of sex crimes unrelated to the May 2007 disappearance and reports that police are optimistic about a charge related to the disappearance of the British, before Christmas.

German investigators charged him with five offenses between 2000 and 2017, while traveling between his native Germany and Portugal.

In April 2007, a month before Madeleine disappeared, he was accused of ambushing a ten-year-old German girl who was playing on a beach in Salema, Portugal - not far from where the British toddler would disappear a month later.< /p>
