Premier League match index as EFL confirm plan for matches to resume as normal

The EFL have announced that matches will resume as normal on Tuesday with plans to pay tribute to the late Queen Elizabeth II. The news hints that the Premier League could also be back on schedule from this week.

All football in England was postponed over the weekend following the Queen's death on Thursday. The decision was criticized with golf, cricket and rugby continuing.

There are still doubts about Arsenal's Europa League game against PSV Eindhoven at the Emirates on Thursday due to police resources. Premier League games in London could also be under threat this weekend for the same reason, with the Queen's state funeral due to take place on Monday September 19.

However, the EFL will resume on Tuesday, with tributes to be paid to the late Queen across the country. A statement confirmed that specific devices will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis due to the current policing plan.

The statement read: "The EFL fixtures program will return as scheduled from Tuesday 13 September, with tributes to be paid to the late Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II at grounds across the country. One minute of Silence will take place before matches, with black armbands to be worn by participants, flags to be lowered and the national anthem to be played in the stadiums.

"With a national policing plan now operational, the league and clubs will continue to work with the forces regarding any challenges that may arise regarding the policing of specific fixtures.< /p>

"Individual circumstances will be considered on a case-by-case basis, in accordance with standard Security Advisory Group (SAG) protocols."

Premier League club fans are awaiting confirmation from the league on whether their schedule will resume this weekend. However, the EFL's statement is a clue to the decision that will be made.

Piers Morgan has expressed his disagreement with the postponement of football. He thought it would have been a good opportunity to pay homage to the Queen.

Morgan tweeted on Friday: "Sporting events should happen. a) The Queen loved sport and b) It would be great to see/hear huge crowds singing the national anthem in tribute to Her Majesty, as the did the West Ham fans beautifully last night."
