NYPD Provides Update Following Officer Stabbing
A New York City Police recruit was slaughtered by a rampaging teenager who stabbed him in the head with a machete on his first day on the job.
The first reports of gunfire came just before 9:30 p.m. with dozens of cops rushing to the dark scene, near where tourists and New Yorkers had gathered to watch the clock strike 12.
A suspect, now identified as 19-year-old Maine resident Trevor Bickford, attacked a group of police guarding outside the Times Square perimeter.
A cop shot the suspect in the shoulder. The knife and the recruit are now in serious but stable condition at Bellevue Hospital.
Another officer was hit with the weapon but not seriously injured, a third was injured when a police car rammed into him in the ensuing chaos after the stabbing.
