Likelihood of Nuclear War Now Same as 'Russian Roulette', Scientist Says

Renowned scientist Professor Max Tegmark has discovered that the likelihood of an apocalyptic nuclear war linked to the Ukrainian crisis is now only one in six, as much as Russian roulette.

The frightening prospect of an apocalyptic nuclear war is now a one in six chance, according to a leading scientist who calculated the odds.

Swede Max Tegmark, a professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, has said that a US-Russian nuclear war is about as likely as a defeat at "Russian roulette: one in six".

Since the United States dropped nuclear bombs on Japan at the end of World War II, the threat of nuclear war has been a possibility, but normally an unlikely prospect due to the cataclysmic consequences.< /p>

The stalemate of the Cuban Missile Crisis in 1962 is remembered as when the world came to the brink of nuclear war because of the deployment of ballistic missiles by the USSR in Cuba.

And now the world is looking nervously at the Ukrainian battlefield where Russian leader Vladimir Putin has not had the success he would have hoped for and is using the possibility of nuclear weapons as a threat.

The fear among experts is that given that Russia is so far unsuccessful militarily and has suffered a few defeats recently, Putin may turn to the most extreme weapon in his arsenal .

Putin held sham referendums in the four annexed regions of Donetsk, Luhansk, Kherson and Zaporizhzhia, so he now claims they belong to Russia. At the same time, he declared that he would use nuclear weapons to defend Russia.

And Tegmark, who studies the probability of nuclear war, considers it extremely high.
