PSG 0-1 Lyon: Three things we learned

Paris Saint-Germain suffered their seventh defeat of the year so far against former rivals Lyon last weekend.

While they can be considered one of the best teams in world football, and certainly the best in France, this was not the case with Paris Saint-Germain on Sunday. They just couldn't get into that encounter with Olympique Lyonnais and in the end, the visitors managed to pull off a huge victory.

Today we're going to take a look at some of our biggest takeaways from a night of dramatic action.

The Messi problem?

Both during the game and at the full-time whistle, Lionel Messi's name was greeted with whistles from the local faithful. It certainly wasn't his best performance in a PSG shirt but in equal measure it seems a bit harsh for someone considered the GOAT. Who knows, maybe the constant rumors surrounding him and a possible return to Barcelona this summer have something to do with it.

Lyon's patience

They managed 10 shots throughout the night, but Lyon also had just 38% possession from start to finish. It was the kind of game where they knew they had to become masters of the dark arts again, and in truth, that's probably what paid off for them. They've had a lackluster campaign so far, but if there was ever a result to help turn things around, it would be beating PSG on their home turf.

The setbacks of PSG

As previously reported, PSG have already lost seven games this year. It's not exactly the kind of form a team of this quality should be in, especially when they're viewed so well on the world stage. It really feels like their inability to get the job done in Europe is starting to hurt their league form, and with Lens and Marseille just six points adrift, they have to start looking over their shoulder.
