Pull a chainsaw with gravity

[Flowering Elbow] had a big ash log that needed to be crushed. He had his chainsaw and shared great technique for easier cutting. After cutting down a tree, allowing it to dry out for a season, then transporting it to your sawing site, you are ready to cut. However, cutting down a gigantic tree with a chainsaw is a huge task. A few hacks improve it, like tilting your log down slightly, so the chainsaw runs down or using a jig to keep the cut straight. Some use a winch system to drag the jig to help, so it's not just pure labor. The problem is that a winch will exert more force if the saw hits a difficult knot or section. So you would want to slow down and let the saw work in the area.

[Flowering Elbow] uses a pulley and a piece of wood and suspends it from a tree. The log falls as it is cut and exerts a constant force. This means the saw can slow down during tough sections and take the time it needs, extending blade life. There are some other great tips in the video, and combined with his old chainsaw jig, you'll be ready to mill some logs with nothing but a chainsaw and a bit of ingenuity.
