Quentin Tarantino: I used to refer to Harvey Weinstein's rumored behavior as 'crazy men'

Quentin Tarantino continues to speak out on former collaborator Harvey Weinstein.

The disgraced mega-producer Miramax and Weinstein Company was convicted of rape in 2020 and sentenced to 23 years in prison. Weinstein produced nine films with Tarantino before splitting in October 2017 amid #MeToo movement allegations against Weinstein.

"I had never heard the stories that came out later," Tarantino said on HBO Max's "Who's Talking to Chris Wallace." “I heard the same stories that everyone had heard. What I wish I had done was talk to Harvey about it and say, "Harvey, you can't do that."

The 'Once Upon a Time in Hollywood' author continued, "To tell you the truth, I attributed it to a 'Mad Men' era version of the boss chasing the secretary around the desk. "I'm not saying it's OK. That's how I heard it...in that category. It was never about rape or anything like that."

Tarantino added that he thought Weinstein was "pathetic" and didn't want to have a "tough talk" with him.

"I felt what he was doing was pathetic, and I didn't want to face his pathetic character," Tarantino said. "I didn't think it was, 'OK, you do this for me or you won't get this movie.' I've never heard an actress say anything like that. It was just, you know, 'Don't get in the back of a limo with him.' It was easy to compartmentalize that to some extent."

The 'Cinema Speculation' author said, "I feel bad anyway. What I feel bad about is that I feel bad that I didn't have a man-to-man conversation. man with him about it."

Tarantino previously revealed in 2017 that actress and former girlfriend Mira Sorvino told him about Weinstein's sexual abuse of her. "I knew enough to do more than I did," Tarantino told The New York Times. “There was more than the normal rumours, the normal gossip. It wasn't used. I knew he had done some of those things. I would have liked to take responsibility for what I heard. If I had done the job I should have done at the time, I should have not worked with him."

He continued, "What I've done is marginalize the incidents. Anything I say now will sound like a shitty excuse...I've attributed it to a 50s-60s image of a boss chasing a secretary around the office. Like that's OK. That's the egg on my face right now."

Last year on the "Joe Rogan Experience" podcast, Tarantino said he wanted to have a conversation with Weinstein at the time. “I wish I had sat him down and had the uncomfortable conversation,” Tarantino said in 2021. “I wish I had spoken to him. not do that, you're going to screw it up." Maybe his brother Bob [did it], but I don't think anyone told him about it. And the problem is, all those who were in his orbit knew that. They probably didn't know anything about the rapes, but they had heard things."
