Quinta Brunson pokes fun at Jimmy Kimmel Emmys controversy: 'Tomorrow I might be mad at him'

Emmy winner Quinta Brunson wasn't fazed by Jimmy's comedic part Kimmel at the awards ceremony on Monday night.

The late night entertainer took the stage alongside Will Arnett at the 74th Annual Awards annual Emmy Awards. The appearance of the two presenters involved the former "Bojack Horseman" dragging Kimmel's seemingly lifeless body across the stage. The act's goal poked fun at Kimmel's loss since he didn't win the Variety Talk Show award earlier in the ceremony. Arnett joked to the crowd that Kimmel took advantage of the ceremony bar and drank too much.

The move sparked controversy online as viewers criticized Kimmel's decision to stay on scene while Brunson accepted the gold statuette.

The 'Abbott Elementary' star and showrunner opened up to defend Kimmel backstage, telling the press that she was not offended by the gag.

"I know Jimmy Kimmel, and I don't know, I felt like the bit didn't bother me that much I don't know what the internet thinks...I know him...Jimmy gave me my first big late night spot and was one of the first people to see 'Abbott' ", she told the press backstage. "He messaged me on Instagram saying he had seen this comedy and thought it was one of the greatest comedies of all time and he was so excited it was going to be on ABC."

"So at that time I think I was really happy it was Jimmy I kind of consider him one of the godfathers of comedy... Tomorrow maybe I'll be mad at him I'm going to be on his show on Wednesday so I might punch him in the face I don't know not what's going on,” Brunson joked.

Brunson won his first Emmy Award on Monday night after winning Best Writing for a Series comical. She is the third black person and second black woman to win comedy series writing after Larry Wilmore ("The Bernie Mac Show") and Lena Waithe ("Master of None").
