Ranking every winger signed by Man Utd since Cristiano Ronaldo in 2003

Manchester United have made a few once-in-a-lifetime signings in the Premier League era, and the problem with these is that they are difficult to replicate.

It took years for the Red Devils to find another keeper close to the level of Peter Schmeichel, as wingers who arrived since Cristiano Ronaldo arrived in 2003 have mostly failed to make the same impact .

We've gone through the 16 wide players United have signed since the Madeira man and ranked them from worst to best. We haven't included the second coming of Ronaldo himself, given that he has long since transformed into a complete centre-forward.

16. Facundo Pellistri

Pellistri literally did nothing for United; he hasn't played a single game since Deigo Forlan convinced Ole Gunnar Solskajer to sign him in 2020.

For this reason, we had to put it last.

But he showed flashes in pre-season this time around and there is still time for him to get good. Fingers crossed, huh?

15. Zoran Tosic

We briefly considered putting Pellistri above Tosic because, after United's efforts to sign the Serb, his contribution seems almost less than unnecessary.

Joining what was expected to be a joint deal with compatriot Adem Ljajic, the former Partizan player failed to even start for the club, with his final league minutes against Hull City in a side that also included Richard Eckersley and Lee Martin.

Worse still, Ljajic - who didn't complete his part of the move - ended up being the more accomplished player.

14. Wilfried Zaha

At least Zaha earned a start (two if you include the Community Shield), but what a waste that was.

£15m for a player quickly seen as inferior to what United already possessed, only for him to leave and subsequently demonstrate he was one step ahead of most current team.

13. Amad Diallo

Diallo is in a similar boat to Pellistri having joined the club for a decent amount based solely on his promise.

He actually played for United, though. Nine times, in fact. He scored too, which is more than can be said for Zaha or Tosic.

Yet he still has a long way to go to justify the £20m United paid Atalanta for his services.

12. Alexis Sanchez

On the plus side, United did not have to pay a transfer fee for Alexis.

Plus, uh, he scored that goal against Arsenal. Nothing else? No?

For United's defence, they couldn't have seen this coming. What is that? They absolutely could have seen it coming? Yes, you're probably right.

11. Memphis Depay

We had a few weeks at the start of the 2015-16 season where it looked like Memphis would prove the money was well spent after instantly striking up a relationship with Luke Shaw. Then Shaw broke his leg and everything quickly went downhill for the Dutchman as well.

This one was particularly frustrating. Not just for the fees, although they were substantial, but because Louis van Gaal was supposed to get the most out of him without too much difficulty.

Since leaving Old Trafford he has impressed an exciting Lyon side and even secured a transfer to Barcelona. It must sting.
