Researcher envisions smart education system built with blockchain, DAOs, NFTs and AI

Mehmet Fırat, a researcher at Anadolu University in Turkey, recently published a research envisaging a multi-technology solution to the problems of the traditional education system called "Smart Open Education Ecosystem" (SOEE).

The research combines blockchain, decentralized autonomous organizations (DAOs), non-fungible tokens (NFTs), multimodal learning analytics, and artificial intelligence (AI) to form an autonomous educational ecosystem.

According to a research paper authored by Fırat and published on July 25, "Equity, equal opportunity and access problems can be considered as the most importance of education in today's world."

Firat offers an "open education" system running a blockchain that uses generative AI systems such as ChatGPT or similar to interface with students and personalize learning experiences. Lessons, learning resources, and credentials would be designed as NFTs, and the entire process would be governed by a DAO.

According to Firat, the ultimate goal of open education is not only to democratize learning and make education accessible, but also to provide personalized learning experiences for everyone. According to the research paper:
