RISE Theater Directory joins diverse theater professionals with top employers

RISE (Representation, Inclusion, & Support for Employment) Theater Directory promotes the visibility of the people who work behind the scenes, behind the scenes and support theatrical creation to producers, general managers, theaters and employers. The National Directory is a public service tool, accessible to all, created with a specific focus for women, people of color and people from underrepresented communities. The directory will enhance our existing industry networks and set the stage for future generations of theater makers. Only together will we truly rise.

The directory was launched with over 1,000 theater professionals in the directory and support from producers, directors and professional associations in the theater industry.

RISE Theater Directory

Its mission is to increase diversity among the workforce that produces American theater. This includes, but is not limited to, people of color, women, trans, non-binary, Deaf, and disabled theater professionals. Everyone has something to contribute to American history.

The artists we see on stage are just the tip of the proverbial iceberg of the many workers who make theater a reality. Jobs range from machinists to general managers to producers.

New York itself is experiencing a renaissance of opportunities for creative artists and performers from diverse backgrounds. We are seeing a creative flowering that is an important part of New York's renaissance after the social justice protests during the pandemic shutdown. Doors long closed have dramatically opened in a way that is redefining American performing arts. The RISE Theater Directory is helping to grow this trend in New York and spreading it across America.

Backed by heavy hitters

The Directory was conceived by Lin-Manuel Miranda, the playwright and songwriter whose musical "Hamilton" is the Broadway hit of our generation. Its initial support came from American theater leaders:

American Theater Wing (Tony Awards) Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS The Broadway League (trade association for the Broadway industry) Jeffrey Seller (“Rent”, “Avenue Q”, “In the Heights” and producer “Hamilton”) John Gore for Broadway.com Jordan Roth (producer and president of Jujamcyn Theatres, one of Broadway's leading theater producers) Maestra Music (directory of female music industry workers) Nederlander Organization (one of Broadway's leading theater producers) Miranda Family Fund (donations, fundraising and advocacy for underserved communities in Upper Manhattan, New York, USA and Puerto Rico) Thomas Kail (director of "In the Heights" and "Hamilton") UPS Foundation

Increased diversity behind the scenes leads to a more diverse audience in front of the room. It's a win-win for the theater.

Find your next project. Discover your next team. Do it on RISE.

If you are looking to work or hire in theatre, join the RISE Theater Directory and be part of the movement to produce theater that is truly representative of America. It's free for those looking to hire and those looking to work. Together we rise.
