Rishi Sunak today brought back England's ban on fracking in a Tory turn - after the drilling that split was only allowed for 48 days.

The new Prime Minister has reversed Liz Truss' initial U-turn, leading the party back to an overt 2019 "moratorium" on shale gas extraction.

The Prime Minister's official spokesperson gave the confirmation after Mr Sunak was pressed on the issue during his first questions to the Prime Minister.

Mr. Sunak had told the Commons he 'supported' the Conservative Party's 2019 manifesto - and insisted his government would stick to what was agreed at the UN COP26 climate talks in Glasgow.

Danny Gross, energy campaigner for Friends of the Earth, called it a "fantastic victory for common sense, the environment and local communities across the country".

He added: "The government must now focus on real solutions to the energy crisis, including a street-by-street house insulation program and the development of the huge potential for wind and solar power generation. land of the United Kingdom."
