Rishi Sunak refused to commit to offering nurses free parking at the hospital - as he repeatedly tried to dodge the issue in an interview with Piers Morgan.

The Prime Minister has been slammed over dedicated NHS staff being forced to pay to park their cars on their way to work.

Pressed on the subject, Mr. Sunak repeatedly tried to dodge the question, saying, "We have also done other things for the nurses."

As he made excuses, he said, "Everyone who watches this show will get to work in different ways."

The Prime Minister also claimed it was "not fair" to compare Scotland and Wales, where nurses do not pay parking fees in hospitals.

Piers said it was 'absurd' that nurses are paying £1,000 each a year to park their cars 'outside a place they go to save lives'.

After a painful back and forth, Piers asked him to "at least look into" the problem, Mr. Sunak finally promised, "Sure, I'm happy to look into that."

The Mirror has been campaigning since 2017 for hospital parking fees to be abolished for everyone – patients, staff and visitors.

The NHS faces strikes every day next week except Wednesday in an ongoing pay dispute. Both paramedics and nurses will lower the tools on February 6 for the first time.

Mr. Sunak said it was "hard not to give nurses an inflationary raise," but added, "It's a matter of choice."

The interview with the former Mirror editor comes as Mr Sunak celebrates 100 days in Number 10 after taking over from disaster Prime Minister Liz Truss, to whom he lost in the Conservative summer leadership race.

Mr. Sunak confessed to Piers that he feared his frontline political career was over after losing the Conservatives' summer leadership race to rival Liz Truss.
