Rock star Rod Stewart called the trophy hunt "savagely cruel and senseless", adding that it was "time to stand up for the animals".

The 78-year-old singer has joined a host of celebrities, including Liam Gallagher and Succession star Brian Cox, who support the Mirror's campaign to ban the despicable pastime and ban hunters from bringing back their sick memorabilia in Great Britain.

He also urged MPs to attend Friday's crucial vote on a change to the law, especially as only 28 have so far confirmed their attendance.

Rod said, "We risk losing some of the world's most magnificent wildlife to the selfishness of trophy hunters.

"How can this so-called sport be considered fun or even fair when the opponent is unarmed?"

Oasis frontman Liam, 50, said: "Trophy hunters are spoiled little brats; don't they have enough toys to play with.

"They're wiping out the wildlife. Soon they won't have anything left to kill. How are we going to explain this to future generations? Let's ban it."
