Sir Rod Stewart has admitted he is still a 'bit of a fan' of disgraced former cabinet minister Boris Johnson, who was recently found guilty of 'repeated contempt' of Parliament in connection with a multi-stakeholder survey.

The Maggie May singer, 78, said he thinks Johnson has "wonderful charisma" as he jokes that the controversial former politician should talk to him about a potential comeback.

Johnson announced on Friday that he would resign as MP for Uxbridge and South Ruislip just before the commission released its report into his misleading MPs about Partygate.< /p>

The committee said Johnson deliberately misled MPs by saying all rules were followed at Downing Street parties that breached the lockdown.

Rod, who has ranted about the Tory's cruel cuts to this year's star, said earlier today: "I was and still am a bit of a Boris fan because I think he has a wonderful charisma.

"But you know, you knew what you were getting with Boris, so it's not unusual. He's said a few nasty things over the years. So I'm not surprised."

Speaking to Sky News, Rod added: "He's in big trouble now. But how is he going to make a comeback? I don't know. Maybe he should talk to me. I do returns for years."

Johnson escaped a 90-day suspension when he resigned as an MP in protest at the committee's findings and submitted a resignation honor roll that featured MPs such as Priti Patel and Jacob William Rees-Mogg.
