Tamara Harvey, who currently runs Theatr Clwyd in Mold, North Wales, will share the work with Daniel Evans, who runs the Chichester Festival Theatre.
The two new co-artistic directors will replace Gregory Doran, who stepped down earlier this year after a decade.
The pair will join Stratford-upon-Avon-based RSC next June.
Harvey said in a statement: “We bring a shared belief in all that the RSC can be – a home for radical and relevant theater made by artists from the UK and around the world. A global community inspired by Shakespeare, bringing together a myriad of voices to tell the stories of our time - and of all time."

Under his leadership, the venue has staged shows ranging from Olivier Award-winning Home, I'm Darling, to a musical called The Assassination of Katie Hopkins.
