Ben Wallace discusses continued support for Ukraine

Russia is 'slowly losing' in war with Ukraine, British Defense Secretary Ben Wallace told troops.

Mr. Wallace visited Lydd Army camp in Kent on Wednesday, where Ukrainian volunteers are being trained to fight in the war against Russia.

This comes as Russia announced it was withdrawing from the southern Ukrainian city of Kherson and nearby areas, in another humiliating setback for Moscow's forces in the 8 month war.

Speaking directly to Ukrainian soldiers, Mr Wallace described Russia as a "slow loser" and reassured them that Britain will continue to support them.

He said the country had been an "active adversary" of the UK for several years.

The cabinet minister also referred to the Salisbury Novichok poisonings in 2016 and said the UK did not fear retaliation from Russia for its support of Ukraine.

He said: "Russia has been an active adversary of Britain for many years - many will remember the poisoning in Salisbury, where they deployed nerve agents.

"Russia is a regular source of cyberattacks in this country.

"Of course, Russia doesn't like the fact that the UK is against it - we stand for the values of freedom, democracy and human rights, but that's not going to deter us. < /p>
