Sarri and Immobile lament familiar failures after Lazio humiliate themselves at Midtjylland

Maurizio Sarri lamented the familiar "emotional breakdowns" and Ciro Immobile called the result "humiliating" after Lazio were beaten 5-1 at Midtjylland in the Europa League on Thursday.

Sergej Milinkovic-Savic's 57th-minute goal proved mere consolation as Lazio never recovered from a 3-0 loss in 52 minutes after goals from Paulinho, Sory Kaba and Evander .

Gustav Isaksen and captain Erik Sviatchenko added new finishing touches after the Lazio midfielder's effort condemned Sarri's side to a humiliating defeat on their trip to the MCH Arena.

It was only the fourth time Lazio had scored five or more goals in UEFA competition, leaving Sarri to question his methods as he lamented the recurrence of previous problems.

"I don't see big differences [from previous seasons]," Sarri told reporters. "These sudden emotional outbursts are similar to those of previous years.

"It's hard to understand the reasons: if it's me, I have to step back, if it's the players, I have to go."

Lazio were met with jeers from their traveling supporters and Immobile acknowledged the boos were justified.

"Fans reacted with clear heads. They told us they were rightly p***** about what they saw. But moving forward, they told us not to give up and nothing was lost,” Immobile said.

"We thought we had gone a step further than last year, but we were wrong. Losing like this is really humbling. I see it differently than defeats against Bologna and Verona.

"We played with little humility. In Europe you pay for these things and we paid enough for them: five goals is unacceptable."
