Liz Truss pays lobbying firm for services of his chief of staff, the government has admitted, prompting Labor condemnation.

"We need to see an urgent independent investigation on any conflict of interest - anything less than that is likely to look like an admission of wrongdoing."

Fullbrook Strategies announced that it had "suspended" its business operations this month after that its founder was appointed first assistant to the prime minister.
