South Korea dispatched fighter jets after a group of 10 North Korean military jets flew near the border between the two Koreas, South Korea's Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) said South.

This comes amid heightened tensions over repeated North Korean missile tests.

A JCS statement says the incident happened late Thursday and early Friday, Korean time.

According to security chiefs, the planes flew up to seven miles north of the inter-Korean border in what is a highly unusual incident.

F-35 jets and other combat aircraft were dispatched in immediate response.

This comes just days after North Korea fired another missile at Japan in its seventh projectile test in just a fortnight.
