South Korean parliament calls for minister to be sacked over Halloween crush that killed 156 people

South Korea's National Assembly has passed a motion demanding the removal of the country's Interior Minister, Lee Sang-min, due to the authorities' preparation for the Halloween holiday in Itaewon.

Crowd crashes in the popular nightlife district sparked an outpouring of public sympathy for the 156 people who lost their lives and the 198 who were injured on October 29.

Most of the victims were in their 20s and 30s and were among the approximately 100,000 people who gathered in Itaewon's party district to celebrate the first post-pandemic Halloween.
