Studios and Guilds Officially Extend COVID Protocols Through September

Studios and Guilds have officially extended COVID protocols through September 30.

The Directors Guild of America, SAG-AFTRA, IATSE, Teamsters and AMPTP have released a new statement extending COVID protocols for film and television.

The statement read, "The agreement maintains workplace protocols and protections that have enabled a sustained and successful return to work while allowing flexibility to address the changing nature of the virus."

Two new changes have been made including meals. The amendment stated: "Self-service catering services that require employees to share utensils such as serving spoons or tongs will not be permitted for catering service to employees who are not fully immunized." /p>

Changes have also been made to transport.

Vehicles provided by producers can operate at full capacity. Previously, vehicles could only run at 75%. In transit, cast and crew must wear face masks. The amendment stated: "If a vehicle contains a passenger who is not wearing a face mask, passengers must observe physical distancing."

Away from film sets, Director of Public Health Barbara Ferrer said Thursday that Los Angeles County has moved to high-level community spread of COVID. She said in a videoconference that if the county remains at the high community level for another two weeks, an indoor mask mandate will return on July 29.

The COVID back-to-work agreement has been in place since September 21, 2021. The last agreement is due to expire on September 30 and will likely be reworked again as circumstances change.
