'Suits' spin-off 'Pearson' lands on Peacock after Meghan Markle's legal drama becomes a hit on Netflix

Suitable for spin -off of Pearson

Peacock hopes to draw attention to Pearson, the short-lived The spin -off from Suits, after the latter became a surprise hit on Netflix this summer.

Streamer NBCUniversal today added the show, which starred Gina Torres, to its service. We hope new Suits fans will also check out the spin-off, which is not available on Netflix.

Pearson aired for one season on the cable network in 2019 but was canceled a month and a half after the end of its season.

Starring Mothership series alum Torres, Pearson centered on her character, high-profile attorney Jessica Pearson, as she enters the dirty world of Chicago politics. It also stars Bethany Joy Lenz, Morgan Spector, Chantel Riley, Simon Kassianides, Eli Goree and Isabel Arraiza.

Pearson originated from Suits, whose season 7 finale served as a backdoor pilot for the spin-off.

The offshoot, from Universal Cable Productions, was produced by Suits creator and EP Aaron Korsh; Suits EP Daniel Arkin, who served as showrunner; Torres; and Suits executive producers Doug Liman, David Bartis and Gene Klein of Hypnotic.

This decision will see NBCU try to convince some Netflix subscribers who may have binged (or are in the process of from binging) the parenting show Suits, which spent six weeks at the top of the Nielsen charts.

Earlier this summer, the series broke a Nielsen streaming record for acquired programming; it drew 3.1 billion minutes of viewing during the week of June 26 to July 2 on Netflix and Peacock. The first season of the series was also watched for 27.7 million hours on June 19 after being added to Netflix and remained in that streamer's top ten for several weeks.

Don't expect any more spinoffs, though, anytime soon. Suits creator Aaron Korsh recently revealed that there is nothing in the works.
